Questions About Having a Reiki Session
What is Reiki?
Reiki originated from Japan and it was founded by Dr Mikao Usui in 1922. Reiki is the transference of life force energy from the practitioner to the patient. The practitioner who is already attuned to the energy places their hands in certain positions on the patients body transferring this life force energy which balances the body's energy system and chakras. Life force energy is a high vibrational energy that helps bring the body into better alignment and balance. Life force energy has been known about from thousands of years and dates all the way back to ancient Vedic texts in India, it was known as 'prana', a vital life force energy that sustains the body. When we are stressed or run down we can become depleted in this life force energy. Reiki restores this balance which is beneficial for general wellbeing. There is still much to be learnt about how reiki works, but there have been studies on reiki suggesting that it may help to promote relaxation and stress reduction. I believe in the future we will have a much greater understanding of reiki. Â

I've heard of chakras but what exactly are they?Â
Chakras are spinning balls of energy that are in certain areas of the body, there are seven of the major chakras and they can affect our physical and emotional wellbeing. Chakras can sometimes become underactive or overactive, an underactive chakra means that there is not enough energy flowing through it, an overactive chakra means there is too much energy flowing through it. When chakras are underactive more energy flows to other chakras possibly making one or more overactive to compensate, as energy can never be destroyed only transferred to a different area. The seven chakras are, the root chakra, the sacral chakra, the solar plexus, the heart chakra, the throat chakra, the third eye and the crown chakra.

What happens during a reiki session?
During a reiki session the patient lies down on a treatment couch fully clothed whilst I place my hands on the patients body, starting from the crown of the head and moving down to eventually their feet, slowly distributing the energy evenly throughout the body and chakras. Afterwards I talk through with the patient about their chakras, which chakras were underactive or overactive and I give them advice on how to look after them. The actual treatment is about 60 minutes long in total.
